St Olcan's Primary School, Armoy, Ballymoney, Co Antrim

House system

We operate a House System at St Olcan's Primary School. Children from P1 – P7 are allocated into four Houses and will remain in the same House throughout their time at the school.

The four Houses are Glendun (Blue), Glentaisie (Green), Glenarm (Red) and Glenshesk (Yellow).
This system in St Olcan's is aimed at encouraging a healthy team ethos and points are earned for behaviour and achievement in the classroom, around school, and at various school events/activities.

It aims to encourage a real sense of satisfaction and achievement for the children. It does not seek to displace good positive behaviour strategies that already exist in our classrooms but rather it fosters community spirit and gives the children an opportunity to contribute to something ‘bigger’. The older children are positive role models and take on a pastoral role for the younger children, working together towards a shared goal.

Each September, our P6 and P7 pupils will nominate Pupil House Captains and Deputy House Captains. Children will remain in the same house throughout their time at St Olcan's Primary School. Children will earn coloured tokens for various reasons, these can include excellent pieces of work, trying their best, kindness, helpfulness, good manners, achievements inside and outside of school etc. Tokens will be counted half-termly and the winning house will avail of a treat. We believe that the house system is a valuable asset to our school community, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our students.
